there are so many organizations in this area that work to save unwanted pets - humane societies, foster groups, no-kill shelters. if you don't like working with large dogs, there are some groups with only small dogs.

my husband and i just went to the Corkscrew Sanctuary. it was great. very peaceful and lots of wildlife - we even saw some baby gators with their mom. it costs 10 dollars for an adult and i think 6 for kids. very cool
